Book Sale
Literacy Volunteers of America-Montgomery County is collecting books for their 12th annual book sale at Panther Creek Shopping Center on Saturday, March 29th. Please put this date of your calendar and plan to attend the Spring Festival where there will be plenty of things to do, see, buy and enjoy....as well as plenty of books for all ages! The sale will be all day from 9:00am till 4:00pm, but remember that the early bird gets the best books! Please plan to attend and bring a friend. To donate books for the sale you can drop them off at the Houston Chronicle office at 574 Sawdust Road in The Woodlands or at the Literacy Volunteers of America-Montgomery County office at 412 W. Phillips #125. For pick up of larger amounts of books or to obtain information on how to help with the sale or to donate, please call Sheryl at 936-494-0635 or 888-878-9400.

CLASSES & WORKSHOPS

Martial Arts Registration 
Kim Soo Karate of Conroe is now registering for it's Chayon-Ryu "Natural Way" martial arts program. The Chayon-Ryu teaching method is based on natural body movements within each of its parent styles which includes; Korean Taekwondo & Hapkido, Chinese Kung Fu, and Japanese Karate. Beginners meet on Tuesdays & Thursdays at 6 p.m. Come visit the school for one free lesson. Courses are offered to adults (men & women) and children ages 4 and older. Women’s Self Defense Class
Fred Vogt, author of "See Sally Kick Ass" facilitates a Montgomery County Women's Center "Defense Sense" self-defense class at the Capital One bank building located at Research Forest Drive and Hewitt. The classes are sponsored by Capital One and held every third Thursday of the month at 7 pm wherein Vogt teaches a variety of maneuvers as well as awareness strategies to stay safe. In addition to the Thursday evening class, Vogt also teaches an extended intensive at regularly scheduled times for those wanting to learn more defense measures. Capital One has been hosting the event since July 2007 for the agency. The next scheduled class is February 21, March 20, April 17snd May 15. The Montgomery County Women's Center serves victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault by providing shelter, counseling and legal advocacy free of charge. National Health Information Network
Federal and state health care officials are coming to Houston on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 15 – 16, to discuss an initiative to build a National Health Information Network, which could go a long way toward improving the quality of patient care and ultimately reducing cost. The University of Texas School of Health Information Sciences at Houston is organizing the program at the George R. Brown Convention Center, titled “The National Health Information Technology Summit: A Washington/Texas Dialogue.” The summit is open to the public and online registration is available at http://www.nhit-shis.org

Water Aerobics

Safe Boating Classes
The Lake Conroe Flotilla of the Coast Guard Auxiliary will be conducting Safe Boating Classes the fourth Saturday of every month. This class is approved by the Texas Parks & Wildlife for teenagers 14 - 18 needing a boater certification card. The class is conducted at the Flotilla headquarters next to the Lake Conroe Dam on Highway 105 beginning at 8:00 AM. Please arrive early for registration. The course is $30. For teenagers needing a boater certification card there will be an additional charge of $10 payable to Texas Parks & Wildlife. The Woodlands Photo Club 
Meets the second Monday of every month for fun, educational learning experiences and great friendships! We welcome all levels of photography, whether it be film or digital! Among WPC activities are conferences, workshops, field trips, monthly photo mini contests, semi-annual exhibit & competition, and an annual major Photo Seminar. Our speakers range from fellow members to the professionals on all subjects . We meet at 6:30 PM at the Montgomery County South Branch Library in The Woodlands. We would love to see you! Ladies Auxiliary Recruitment
The Ladies Auxiliary Post 4709 is recruiting new members at this time. To be eligible for membership you must be: Wives, widows, mothers, foster and stepmothers (who have performed the duties of parent), grandmothers, daughters, granddaughters, foster and stepdaughters (who attained that status prior to age sixteen and for whom duties of parent were performed), sisters, half sisters, foster and stepsisters (who attained that status before the age sixteen) of persons who were or are eligible membership in the Veterans of Foriegn Wars of the United States. Members must be citizens of the United States and not less than sixteen years old. Women eligible for membership in the Veterans of Foriegn Wars shall be eligible for dual membership in the Ladies Auxiliary. Amtgard
Amtgard is dedicated to the study and reinactment of historic and fantastic medieval life. There is no pay for play policy, you don't have to pay anything to join. We are a Live Action Role Play (larp) game, all of the action is real. Our weapons are foam padded versions of the originals, our combat is generally safe. In addition to combat, Amtgard offers a wide variety of arts and sciences .These include the crafts of garb and accessories making, practical battle field construction like weapon and armor making, as well as heraldry. Texas Master Naturalists
The Heartwood Chapter, based in Conroe, invites you to attend our meeting the first Wednesday of every month from 6-7:30 p.m. at Montgomery College, Room A102. Discover volunteer nature/ecology projects in your community, hear guest speakers, meet like-minded people, learn how you can become a certified Texas Master Naturalist. Crisis Counseling
Montgomery County Women's Center Volunteer Coordinator Hollie Wade provides crisis counseling to a victim of domestic violence. The Women's Center offers free counseling for victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault for men, women and teens. The Center also provides ongoing support groups. Women Survivors of Sexual Assault group meets at noon each Monday, Male Survivors of Family/Sexual Violence group meets 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. each Monday Male Survivors group meets 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday, Adults Molested as Children group meets 7:30 p.m. each Tuesday, Women with Abusive Adult Children group meets 7 p.m. each Tuesday and Walk-In Family Violence Outreach/Women's Group meets 7 p.m. each Thursday. Meals on Wheels Volunteers Needed
Volunteers of The Friendship Center serve over 300 area senior adults every month, with MOW routes in all parts of Montgomery County. The Friendship Center is currently experiencing a shortage of volunteers and hopes to recruit additional individuals to assist these home-bound seniors. To sign up to volunteer, contact Carmen Pellettieri at 936-756-5828 extension 43. Friendship Center staff will provide the training and mentoring needed for new volunteers. Other services offered by The Friendship Center include five activity centers for seniors in all areas of the county, where structured activities, fellowship and hot meals are provided to participants. The center also provides transportation services as well as a homemaker program where staff assist disabled and home-bound senior adults with housekeeping and cooking chores to help them retain their independence and stay in their homes.

Family Game Night 
Join us the first Monday of every month for Family Game Night at your library. Bring the whole family, and join us for family-friendly board games. Many games will be provided, and light refreshments will be served. All ages are welcome, and families are encouraged to bring food and drinks. 6-8 p.m. at the South Regional Branch Library, 2101 Lake Robbins Drive. Leadership Montgomery County Class of 2007 has created for its class project, HelpOurCounty.com web site, which is your connection to the nonprofit community. HelpOurCounty.com helps connect the businesses and residents in the community to participating nonprofits agencies within Montgomery County. All nonprofit listings on the site consist of the agency's contact information, a brief description of their organization, their volunteer and donation opportunities and a link to their web site. Additionally, an “Immediate Needs” posting board will prove to be one of the web site's largest benefits. This “Immediate Needs” posting board will allow any of the participating nonprofit agencies to list their highest priority need over their perpetual needs for 30 days. New Caney High School
EagleVision, the student-produced cable television program seen each week at New Caney High School, is now available on the Internet. NCHS graduates from 2001 to the present may view their favorite episodes by going to “Youtube” or “Teachertube” and typing in “New Caney High School”. EagleVision was rated the top high school television program in Texas in 2006.
