Readers - August 2004
Sick And Tired Of Nazi-Like Tactics
I have just read your editorial in the July 30 – August 5, 2004 edition of the Bulletin, titled, “ Bearing False Witness”. I apologize up front for this lengthy response to that article, but this issue is not a simple one and it requires more than just a passing note.
First , I am so envious that you wrote this and I didn’t. The story is excellent and comprehensive, and answers a number of questions I asked myself after reading about the Library Patrons of Texas in the Conroe Courier. While I don’t often respond to articles in the Bulletin, readers of the online edition of the Conroe Courier know me.
I, for one, am getting sick and tired of the abusive tirade by those in the community that wish to bring Nazi-like tactics to Montgomery County. The willingness of this minority to force their views upon the rest of us is reprehensible. One expects this behavior in countries run by the likes of the Taliban and other religious fanatics, but not in a democratic country.
I have no problem with an individual or group to calmly and rationally express their viewpoints in the public arena, providing they allow for a fair and comprehensive discussion with those who oppose their views. However, some members of the RLC, and others like them, resort to falsehoods, partial truths, inflammatory comments, and strong-arm threats to promote their own agenda. Much like such sophomoric
schoolyard attacks as, “Do you know your brother is a homosexual?” -- where either a yes or no is negative -- they pursue their limited issues without fairness or a desire for the truth. In their minds, it is “their way or the highway.”
With this “for us or against us” attitude, they allow for nothing that opposes their own small-minded view of the world. They are an embarrassment to those of us in the Christian community that believes in Jesus’ own tolerance for what some considered “sinners”. After all, wasn’t Mary Magdalene a prostitute, and didn’t Jesus spare her from
being stoned to death? It seems to me that those of the RLC ilk would have fit in very well with those whom Jesus opposed. I’ve always been appalled by people who, figuratively speaking, walk over the cliff in lemming-like fashion without any investigation about whether doing so is really such a good idea.
And then, when someone such as myself tries to bring a sense of logic and fairness to public debates on the content of our library, groups like the RLC immediately attack you with accusations of being corrupt and perverse.
So for the record, I consider myself a conservative and a Christian. The fact that I oppose such groups as the RLC does not mean I condone homosexuality, radical liberalism, atheistic beliefs, or pornography being made available to children. It does mean, however, that I believe if one feels strongly enough to publicly debate issues of this type, one must do so calmly and rationally. It also means that I recognize others may have an opposing view. And who knows, we being only human, mortal
and prone to error, in the process of acceptable debate we may find that it is our beliefs that are questionable.
In short, I believe in the right of others, within reasonable and legal limits, to have opposing social and political views, to educate their own children in a manner they deem appropriate, to experience alternate views of sexuality, and to interpret for themselves and their children what constitutes pornography. This doesn’t mean I have to like or agree with them, nor does it mean that by supporting their rights to their own beliefs that I believe in their cause.
For those of you who profess a belief in harsh and tyrannical enforcement of your political and religious beliefs, I remind you that this great country of ours was founded on beliefs that were quite the opposite. It was the fleeing of the early Pilgrims from the harsh and often deadly opposition to their beliefs that allowed this nation to form into what is now the United States of America. While it is true this country was generally founded on Christian-Judeo beliefs, our
founding fathers also expressed their belief that each person may view religion, and hence issues of morality, differently.
It is no accident that the first amendment of the Bill or Rights states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
Our forefathers knew and understood the vagaries and weaknesses of the thought processes of the common man, and sought to protect us from ourselves.

County Commissioners Fearful Of Subversive, Radical, Liberal Fringe In Montgomery County
With the publishing of the new web site www.librarypatrons.org the citizens of Montgomery County can quickly see for themselves the kinds of moral garbage being offered to children and youth at our libraries. It's not just one or two books, it's many. And since card catalog descriptions of books are brief, amoral, and invariably glowing, there is a deception to parents
about moral content taking place for hundreds of books in the libraries.
Subversion of morality is destructive to the country according to George Washington. "Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens."
The American Library Association's (ALA) "Library Bill of Rights" and "Freedom to Read" statements, utilized by the selection policy of our county 's libraries, espouse unlimited view of materials of all kinds by all ages of people with no moral constraints. In effect the ALA says that we should expose our children to the full diversity of immorality and harden and
brainwash the kids away from traditional morality and toward sexual permissiveness.
Our libraries carry a disproportionate preponderance of the leftist, libertine, anti-traditional-values materials and ignore moral considerations in book selection. They, by their heavy promotion of an amoral philosophy, in the words of George Washington, "labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness (religion and morality), these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens." To maintain true freedom
and strength in our community and in our nation, we need library policies which support moral principle and community values. And we need people with the true interests of tax-paying citizens running our libraries, not librarians and county commissioners beholden to and/or fearful of the subversive anything-goes advocacy of the American Library Association and
the radical liberal fringe.

(I think you’re right, Mark. Why should we have librarians and the officials we elected running our libraries. We should have true freedom fighters like you and rest of the RLC.
I can't for the life of me understand why Larry claims you use heavy handed tactics when you call Our County Commissioners, and Our Librarians cowards for knuckling under to local Liberals in one of the most Republican, Conservative Counties in America.
It's not like you’re picketing and calling them perverts again.

Applaud The CPS
CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County wishes to express our appreciation for the feature article explaining our volunteer advocacy role. We would, however, like to clarify three (3) points.
First, the concept of “Family Conferencing” and its derivation. The process emanated from CPS. It is currently a pilot program in the Department of Family and Protective Services in Region 6. The concept did not come from CASA, as we are merely participants in the process. We applaud CPS for the objectives and benefits of this new decision making process that utilizes the strengths of the family, the resources of the community and the CPS agency to ensure child safety and well being.
Secondly, the reference to children aging out of the system at age 18 needs further explanation. The Preparation for Adult Living (PAL) Program was implemented in 1986 to ensure that older youth in care are prepared for their inevitable departure from the Department of Family and Protective Services. A foundation of the PAL program is the provision of training to assist youth in developing skills necessary to function as an adult. Training includes independent living skills, support services, benefits and financial services as well as tuition and fee waiver to attend state supported vocational schools, colleges and universities.
Thirdly, the article alludes to CPS being currently under investigation. The context of this point must be clarified. The implication that the local CPS is under investigation is not factual. The greater context of this statement is that Governor Rick Perry decided earlier this month to order a probe of CPS. Perry's action came after CPS' parent agency, The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, was indicted in Hidalgo County for mishandling a case.
We would appreciate your assistance in clarifying the aforementioned points in the next issue of the Bulletin. We respect and collaborate with CPS and wish to give them credit for the work they accomplish on behalf of abused and neglected in our county.
Thank you again for your interest and support of CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County.

CASA CEO
Same As It Ever Was
It has always been this way, but now it's a lot more this way than ever before. There is no sign of anyone looking for a coherent reason to move this way or that in the approaching election. All we have before us is the choice between the most hated candidate ever and the most foreign candidate ever. Bush versus Kerry. Bush is hated essentially because he is not living in the 60's. Somehow he escaped that mentality of governance that it is a federal responsibility to make everything come out right. Kerry accepts the mandate to make sure that everybody has enough money, enjoys robust health during all of their 100+ years, is never embarrassed nor made to feel bad by insensitive oafs, and has access to 200 fabulous entertainment TV channels. The vote seems to be a no brainer. But Al-Qaeda has a vote also. And those guys vote to exterminate us all, W, Laura, 2 Johns and their spouses, Bill, Hillary, you and me. That eliminates the success of Kerry's program. Bush is content for there to be a USA under the 1776 Constitution in 2008. If he succeeds, we can recommit ourselves to all the beautiful things, the American paradise, that Kerry promises.
It really is a no-brainer. Hope there are enough brains out there to figure it all out. Here's a clue: Bill, Hillary, Al, Tipper and their admirers don't have a clue.

The United States has agreed to grant citizenship to 7,000 Ahiska Muslims who will be settled in Pennsylvania, reported a Russian newspaper on Friday, July 23.
The first 11-strong batch of the Ahiska Muslims, living in the Russian province of Krasnodar, left for Geneva on Thursday, July 22, before flying to Philadelphia, reported Novie Izvestia.
It added that the Muslims would be housed near the grand mosque in Philadelphia.
The paper recalled that Krasnodar governor Alexander Tkachev was notified of the American decision on February 15.
Izvestia said the Russian government does not treat Ahiska Muslims as citizens and has not therefore given them passports or IDs.
An official in Krasnodar administration had told Interfax on Tuesday, July 20, that of the 11,999 Ahiska Muslims living in the region, 4,943 have received Russian citizenship and 744 have embarked on Russian naturalization procedures.
He added that more than 5,000 others have expressed a desire to emigrate to the United States.
Earlier, Chingiz Neiman-zade, chairman of Vatan, a Meskheti Turks association based in Georgia, said the United States had offered to accept the Ahiska Muslims living in Krasnodar as immigrants.
"On February 16, the International Migration Organization began an information program in Krasnodar to explain the terms for the resettlement of the Ahiska Muslims in the U.S.," he told Chicago Tribune on Thursday, July 22.
"The immigrants will be provided with housing and furniture, they will be helped to learn the English language and to complete formalities needed for residence in the US, which is especially important, and have been promised life-long welfare allowances for pensioners and the disabled."

If Conservative means.......
Running up huge budget deficits then, I'm a liberal. Talking about homeland security yet not funding it, then I'm a liberal. Trying to establish a theocracy in the United States, then I'm a liberal. Unilaterally starting pre-emptive wars of choice, then I'm a liberal. Telling people how they should live their lives, then I'm a liberal. Trying to breach the checks and balances of the constitution, then I'm a liberal. Restricting individual liberties, then I'm a liberal. Encouraging Corporations to out source American jobs to foreign countries through tax policies, then I'm a liberal. Allowing felons to purchase assault weapons, then I'm a liberal. Something to Ponder
Roughly Eight to eleven million illegal immigrants have sneaked into the United States to live since our lawmakers legalized the last three million or so illegal, plus their extended families.
(Websters definition of illegal unlawful against the law not legal prohibited, unsanctioned proscribed forbidden banned illicit unauthorized illegitimate)
Evidently, such a definition of the word doesnt apply to the present situation when it comes to what is politically correct, or important to the lawmakers of today. Regardless of the fact that this country is being overrun by lawbreaking aliens, what is important to most of those in congress is that they welcome new citizens as potential votes for them to perpetuate their term in office.
Did you know? That immigrants are now on the dole to the tune of $70 BILLION in
welfare each year? That the proportion of immigrants using welfare is a full 50% higher than that of native American citizens? That immigrants are the sole source of our schools overcrowding? Estimated cost to the American taxpayer for the education of immigrant children is over $30 billion a year? Federal spending on bilingual education has skyrocketed 100 fold since 1968, from $7.5 million to $750 million?
The Bush administration is in favor of declaring amnesty for the new influx of the over 8 to 11 million illegal immigrants, which will allow them to bring their extended families in as citizens? (And most of them tend to have large families.)
Even now the pregnant women who are smuggled across the border, enter our hospitals as indigent patients to give birth, unable to pay for treatment, then turn around and use their newborns status as a citizen to bring in the entire family and to claim welfare benefits under AFDC, (Aid to Families With Dependent Children) which amounts to chain immigration.
Did you know that President Bush is seriously considering opening wide
the Mexican border to any and all aliens? WHY? To satisfy big business appetite for cheap labor.

I Cannot Even Imagine!
I would first like to comment about the letter that the "name withheld" lady wrote that lived in Willis. I think that there is more to the story than what was told! I am sorry, but I was married to a Sheriff's Deputy for more than 6 yrs, and they just don't charge you with a crime just "because", and the DA surely does not offer you 2 to 10 in prison, without enough evidence to pursue the charge. You wondered what you/your "future" husband could do to help the 12 yr old- HAVE YOU TRIED COUNSELING? You can call Montgomery County United Way for contact info on places that offer free or low cost counseling services.
I live in Willis, TX and have been here for a while now. I would like to defend the Willis Police Department. The behavior that this women described does not sound like any of the Willis Officers that I know or have had the privilege to meet. I have had some problems where I have had to request that an officer be sent out, and Officer Rooney, Officer King & Officer Smith were all VERY professional, courteous and as helpful as they could! Even though they are very short staffed at the moment, they took the time to listen to my complaint and offered me advice on how to resolve the issue. They always responded in a timely manner as well. I think that they are doing a job well done, considering the fact that they are VERY under staffed! I think everyone needs to remember that Police Officers are human too! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, WILLIS PD
I would also like to comment on the Liberal "mumbo jumbo" I think that the worse thing that we, the American people can do is, to put John Kerry in the White House and let him run out country! He has flip flopped so much that it is not even funny! I think that Gay Marriages should not be legal, it states in the Bible, Leviticus 18:22 " 'Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.". It is really sad that all these liberals want to make this ok, when the Bible clearly states it a sin! Really, let's think about this for a minute...What will this world be like in the next 20 years, if we do not allow our children to say the pledge at school and teach nothing that has anything to do with God? I cannot even imagine!

Shocked And Dismayed
I am shocked and dismayed at the recent disclosure that our American press corps, in response to an anonymous survey, revealed that 66% of reporters overall and 92% of the Washington beltway correspondents are supporting John Kerry and exposed the fact that they are liberal. This is hideous state of affairs.
Something must be done about this. We must find out who these scandalous offenders are. This cannot and will not be tolerated. To think that 8-33% of the press have the audacity to be impartial in their coverage of Republicans, or cannot be trusted to vilify conservatives and mock American traditions is unnerving.
We must have purity. Action must be undertaken immediately. To exemplify the severity of this problem I was rapidly clicking through the television channels, as manly men are prone to do, ABC (Always Biased Channel), CBS (Consistently Biased Station), NBC (Normally Biased Channel) when I sensed that my wife was about to whack me for my impressive velocity, as women are prone to do when confronted with such an envious display of dexterity. I paused at PBS (Permanently Biased Station) and sure enough, they were interviewing a liberal TV viewer who complained that while innocently perusing one of the “B” stations he was subjected to some good news out of Iraq by one of those aforementioned evil correspondents. He was visibly shaken. To think that the portrayal of huge hearted American soldiers doing their duty to make the world safer was foisted upon him was too shocking for him to endure. He groused that this pollution of the airwaves by a positive portrayal of America was ruining his day.
I think I saw a tear glisten as he exclaimed that the FCC should step in to make sure that a poor vulnerable lib, totally dependent on the benevolence of government, should not have his day ruined by such distasteful information, at the dinner hour no less.
If news like this is allowed to be broadcast, people could get the idea that we are a benevolent nation, a nation that respects civility and honors freedom. A country composed of a populace willing to take a stand against despicable tyrants; stalwart individuals who are not afraid to fight the murderous the animals that compose terror networks intent on imposing their religious fascism and hatred throughout the world.
There must be purity in media, in academia, in the schools and the newsmagazines; it is inherently dangerous to allow people to think that they can exist without utopian “progressive” ideology reminding us of our weaknesses and frailty. Liberal leadership will think for us and make sure we comply with their elevated awareness.
The danger cannot be overstated. Conservative vision expresses respect for individuality, elevates self esteem, values character and promotes responsibility. These are contemptible and contagious traits. If there is any hope for a new “progressive” America, removal or intellectualization of these few so called journalists is vital.
Don’t worry, don’t think; help is on the way.

More Threats
Every so often, I pick up your Left-Wing Liberal newspaper to get a good laugh. The latest one was so absurd, that I had to send my comments.
To call John Kerry and John Edwards moderate liberals is unbelievable. Kerry is the number 1 Liberal in the Senate and Edwards is No 4. Kerry is even left of Ted Kenedy!!!
The statement that "we have found out that alchohol is not that bad" is outrageous!! Alcohol causes 50% of the automobile fatalities each year and is one of the biggest drain on our economy. Your quest to legalize marijuana is terrible. It is known fact that marijuana is a lead- in to harded drugs and prolong use will turn a person in to a "rum head" Maybe your newspaper is already inflicted.
You hate George Bush so bad now, I wonder what kind of shape you will be in, four years from now.
I think your readers ought to take a hard look at those who advertise in your newspaper.

Thank You, VFW Ladies Auxiliary
On July 21, I attended a most refreshing gospel music concert featuring The Marksman Quartet. The concert was sponsored by the Montgomery county VFW ladies Auxiliary and was held in the auditorium at Conroe High School.
They sang many inspiring gospel songs during the 1-1/2 hour concert with "Wagon Tracks" being my favorite. The concert and the music were the most spiritual and uplifting music I have heard.
Between songs, they would share a few jokes, one of which my grandchildren got a kick out of.
A duck went into a store and asked the storekeeper, "Do you have grapes?" The storekeeper replied "no" so the duck leaves. A few minutes later the duck returns asking the storekeeper "Do you have grapes?" "No" replied the storekeeper. The duck leaves once again but returns a few minutes later and ask for grapes again. The storekeeper becomes agitated and says " I told you I have no grapes. If you ask again I will nail your feet to the floor." The duck quickly leaves but returns a few minutes later and ask "Mr. Storekeeper do you have any nails?" The storekeeper angrily replies, "NO!" Then the duck immediately asks, "Do you have any grapes?"
Thank you, Montgomery County VFW Ladies Auxiliary for bringing such a great concert with inspiring musicians and singers to Conroe. My family and I really enjoyed it and hope to enjoy more in the near future.

I was looking through your archives trying to find your article @ the time of the threatened book burning in Montgomery County.
It was a survey to find out how well you would live by what type of person you are. Actually one of the most hilarious things I've ever read.
Do you know what month year and article I should be looking for. If you haven't yet the bulletin needs a time capsule to put this survey in.

My Fellow Americans
I've thought for decades that we need a FLAT TAX of 10 % on every working person and business in the United States, and that we should completely abolish and dismantle IRS, eliminating totally the expense of that monster, requiring that the tax be paid directly to the US Treasury via electronic transfer from the individual's and/or company's local bank account.
I also believe a national SALES TAX is a good idea, a fair tax paid only by those who buy, and adjusted from a low minimum on necessities to a bigger levy on luxury items.
The abolishment of IRS and the termination of all of its employees would create temporary personal problems for IRS employees and make big political waves. The elimination of IRS would be huge, and it would definitely have a domino effect through all related individuals and businesses. A lot of people would be hit hard in the short term.
But...in the long term...it is the right thing to do.
If God requires only 10 %, why should our United States government require more?
Yes, a lot of entitlements, free money and other give-away programs may have to go...but that is the right thing to do, too.
The United States of America is a democratic Republic, a government of "we the people," not a socialist state. Not yet.
The welfare mentality and individual selfishness in our country must change... or we must all resign ourselves to accept socialism, domination by the UN and learn to speak Chinese, who will one day own us, the US, and maybe without a shot being fired. We must get back to being more self-reliant as individuals and as a nation. We must stand up for what's right instead of what's more profitable for us personally or our business, "politically correct," or "politically expedient."
My wife and her youngest son's agencies represent more than 30 national and international US manufacturers of lighting, ceiling fans and home accessories...almost all of which are actually produced by Chinese contracted manufacturers. The Chinese even manufacture vital parts for our US armed forces!
We had better all earnestly pray and work really hard to keep the liberal and leftist SOCIALIST DEMOCRATIC PARTY of homosexuals, lesbians, dictatorial unions and self-serving minorities out of our White House and deny them control of our US House of Representatives, our US Senate and US Judicial system.

I Saw The Hatred And Intolerance
Thanks for the write up on the Democratic party event at Buffalo Wild Wings. I was there and saw the hatred and intolerance exhibited by some patrons. Being new to the area, I've never experienced such shameful behavior directed at me for participating in the democratic process, for listening to the issues, for keeping my mind open, and for doing what I believe is in the best interest of our country.

Keep Up The Good Fight
Great job on this piece. You're right about extremist politics in Montgomery County being old hat, of course. I moved to Texas more than 30 years ago: the Texas of Barbara Jordan, Bob Eckhardt, Ann Richards and all of the other great Progressive voices that have all but disappeared under the avalanche of Republican
Wingnuts.
But even then Montgomery County was a hotbed of mean-spirited political ignorance. I've lived and done business in the Spring/ Woodlands/ Conroe area for many years and only the intensity seems to have changed. For the worse, I'm afraid.
One of my first unpleasant experiences in Conroe was when a young family member ran afoul of the judicial system and we discovered that county judgeships were an inherited position. Woe be unto any long-haired Hippy- Yankee carpetbagger that appeared in court in Montgomery County, and being not guilty was no defense. (The head of that Royal Family of judges stated in open court that he was unimpressed with evidence of innocence and prescribed a haircut to let the fine Texas sun shine on this boy's neck to keep him out of trouble. Gave a whole new meaning to the term Redneck.)
I know that it's a depressing time but please tell Raymond McNeel that we can do more than wish to help the Kerry-Edwards ticket, and it doesn't necessarily involve taking a bus or plane to New Mexico to volunteer. Move On Pac needs 10,000 volunteers to partner with local residents in swing states on the State, District and Precinct levels to get out the vote and we can do it by phone. (Of course, contributions are also welcome.)
Just contact moveon.pac or moveon.org for information. We can do a little bit to help return political sanity to Washington this year, if not Texas.
Keep up the good fight in Montgomery County. To tell the truth, I don't understand how you guys keep ahead of a lynch mob, that atmosphere!

Speaking out is what free people do
You are doing a great job here and i wish to thank you for it. Speaking out has always been a hallmark of free people and the service to the community. The Bulletin is of the same vein.
Tomahawk whistled by my head when I woke quickly and sat straight up. Then I noticed the special way the earliest morning fog sat in around the trees I can sleep, I can dream. I can know.
When it comes to the way things are in the world right now and the drama of evil plays out against the good it's a wonder how far it will go before its obvious to everyone.
The media is so dynamic it could end up acting in a way that is unpredictable.
White knights, downloadable software,
crazy antics on the world stage, a missing out that is hard to take.
Media's call to glory what slips by when the border is rushed what is there also when coyote startles.

Bring Out The Democrats
That was an article that I hope will hopefully bring out the Democrats in Montgomery County.
My family and I have lived in ORN for 25 years, and know that we are in the minority. So far, Thank God, we have not been physically attacked, so we have Kerry/Edwards stickers on our cars, and a Kerry/Edwards sign in our front window.
My family is also involved with MoveOn and have attended meetings and other gatherings. I have sent your article to them, and to MoveOn as well. I also belong to Democrats.Com and check them out often.
We can only hope that there will be awakening here, but it's probably too much to hope for. However, the rest of the country may not be so narrow minded and Kerry will hopefully wipe Dubya out on 11/2.

Chicken Hawk Brigade
I was dismayed to see that a group of right wing conservatives attempted to upset a gathering of people, mostly women from the Montgomery County Democratic Women organization, at the Buffalo Wild Wings Club on the evening of July 29th..
They were there, from what I understand, to have a good time and to view Senator Kerry's acceptance speech for the presidency of the United States.
Now, here we have a group of mostly conservative chicken hawks who never served one day in the service of our country attempting to bully a partying group of mostly women!
In fact, the Republican party is lead by a president, Dubya, who was a half a weekend warrior, mostly MIA for his simple weekend drills and a vice-president, Cheney, who had more deferments to keep him out of the service than Tom DeLay has illegal fund raisers and bogus charity groups to raise money for his beloved GOP!
From Rush Limbaugh, who claimed he would have served , but a pimple on his butt kept him away, to Newt Gingrich who stayed in school almost as long as Cheney to keep him away from serving, the tough talking conservative right wing is nothing but a bunch of pantywaists! If they were forced to serve our country they would immediately wet their collective pants and run home to Mommy! What a group of patriots! They're a joke, and should be ashamed of themselves, but they know no shame!

Two Reasons
There are two reasons I can think of why a person making $10,000 a year would vote for Bush.
1. They want to be like him. They think if they vote for him someday they will be like him. Someone has to get them clear on this.
2. They want to vote for the winner. Losing all the time, its nice to at least be with the winners.
I don't know how the Democratic party can tell poor people that the only way they can change things is to vote and tell people they want change. Otherwise, things will stay the same.

Kerry Is A Commie
A photograph of Senator John F. Kerry, being honored for special contributions to the communist victory from the Marxist government of Vietnam, hangs in the War Remnants Museum (formerly the War Crimes Museum) in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon). His partner in the Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW), Jane Fonda, is honored in the Women’s Museum, but she, unlike Kerry, apparently did not receive special commendation as a Hero of communist victory. Kerry was acknowledged in 1983, when he was Lt. Governor of Massachusetts. Kerry’s record of activism on the behalf of the communists was also lauded by the military commander of North Vietnamese forces, General Vo Nguyen
Giap, in his 1985 memoir of the war. Giap wrote that... “if it were not for the disunity created by... stateside protests, Hanoi would have ultimately surrendered.” Thus, Kerry’s efforts aided and abetted the enemy, prolonged the war, and probably resulted in greater American casualties. The photograph of the event can be viewed on the internet at
www.wintersoldier.com. It depicts Kerry being greeted by the future general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Comrade Do Moi. This photo of the former enemy’s special recognition is apparently not displayed on the wall of Kerry’s Senate office, with his reclaimed US wartime citations--which he once declared were thrown away during a VVAW war protest.
In the 1970s, Kerry attended 2 meetings with North Vietnamese communist representatives, according to Marc Morano of CNS News (CNSNews.com). Kerry admits to one meeting in 1970, but FBI records unearthed by Morano, indicate a second took place in 1971, with the purpose of securing the release of American prisoners of war. Freelance diplomacy by
non-governmental agencies such as the Kerry-Fonda group, VVAW, is illegal (US Code 18, USC 953). It is therefore understandable that Kerry would not wish to be portrayed as negotiating with the communists. Kerry’s efforts may have also led to a later undisclosed Vietnam trip, according to an unimpeachable source of antiwar activity--the Communist Party USA’s Daily World newspaper of 16 June 1971. Corsi, Ph.D., has written extensively of Kerry’s dealing with the Marxists, and is quoted by Morano as saying... “Vietnamese communists would not have won the war without John Kerry.” In 1991, Kerry co-chaired a Senate select committee evaluating whether unacknowledged American POWs remained alive in Vietnam. Once again, his loyalty was to Vietnam, rather than to his band of brothers. He cut short the investigation rather than embarrass the communists-- and shredded the reports carefully collected over a period of years by the Defense Intelligence Agency so that the evidence could not be reexamined in the context of new POW sightings.
Further, Kerry lobbied for renewed trade relations with Hanoi, and failed to vote in favor of measures that would require Vietnam to recognize human rights to qualify for that trade. After the Vietnam trade bill was passed (without the human rights requirement), Kerry’s cousin, C. Stewart Forbes, chief executive for Colliers International, assisted in brokering a $905 million deal to develop a deep-sea port at Vung
Tau. Further, Kerry has stalled the Vietnam Human Rights Act (HR2833) in the Senate. Finally, were Kerry’s activities in time of war, as acknowledged by the recognition given him by a foreign power, covered by Article III, Section 3 of the US Constitution regarding giving aid and comfort to the enemy? A group of Navy veterans who served with Kerry in Vietnam believes it was, and otherwise declares Kerry unfit to be the commander-in-chief
(www.swiftvets.com). Kerry’s actions may have also been crucial in persuading the Communist Party, USA, and the Marxist Socialist Worker’s Party to support him for president. Will Kerry repudiate that support, or wear it like a badge of honor--along with his communist Hero status?

The Big Issue
"Environmentalism is not an upper- income issue, it's not a white issue, it's not a black issue, it's not a South or a North or an East or a West issue. It's an issue that all of us have a stake in." … Barak Obama
Someday the world is going to end. The question is, when? If allowed to take its natural course, we have a projected life span of about eighty-million years until the sun burns out. Between now and then, there are a number of possible scenarios for the human race: In no particular order, they are:
1 An exploded population could exceed the earth's carrying capacity (where the earth could no longer provide our basic needs) resulting in systematic annihilation from hunger and the accompanying chaos brought about by the individual struggle to survive.
2. We could be annihilated by the destruction of our environment from pollution of our air, land and water.
3. We could be hit by a meteor large enough to destroy all life.
4. This scenario depends on two possible choices:
A) Whatever our individual gripes are today, we just get over them and do the right thing so the earth can go about its natural business for the next eighty-million years.
B) We each keep looking at the world through the wrong end of the telescope, focusing on what's good for ME ... here, now, in my own little universe; here in my comfortable house where I don't have to worry about what the "poor people" are doing; here in my lovely gated community where tax hikes or tax cuts are not likely to effect my golf, tennis or Bridge games.
But maybe I don't live in a comfortable gated community. Maybe I live in the
heartland of America where God, food and a roof over my head are all that really matters. So why should I be concerned about what happens to the rest of the world? My problem is taking care of my family, preserving my faith and making sure that homosexuals and pro-choice activists don't disturb my way of life. I won't be here in the future, so I'm not going to worry about it. It's
in God's hands. Que sera! Sera!
That's it! Those are the choices. We "get over it" and "do the right thing"- elect the right person. Or, "que sera, sera" - we elect the wrong person and gamble with the future of our planet.
Four years ago more than half of this country's voters pinned their hopes for
the planet on Al Gore, a man who understands the importance of protecting and preserving the environment. But those hopes were dashed when a man who doesn't know anything about the biological interdependence of ecosystems took over the presidency. Nor does he understand that human beings are components of an interdependent social system which has the ability to keep the earth on its natural course, or to throw it off course.
At the moment we may still be the most powerful country in the world. We have been the world's role model for a very long time. Now the world is holding its breath, watching and waiting to see what fate we will choose for the earth in November. Will we choose a new leader like John Kerry, who can put us back on course for the first leg of an eighty-million year journey? Or, will we reelect George Bush, who will continue to throw us off course and turn our future into a crapshoot?
In November, I hope we can all rise above our ideological and political differences. Whatever gripes we have about what's wrong in our private worlds, let's get over it and do the right thing. Let's not vote for our pocketbooks; or to protect ourselves from gays, lesbians and abortions: or for the guy we think will be the toughest on terrorism. And let's not vote for any candidate who puts corporate interests before the welfare of our environment ... now or in the future. Let's rise above our personal interests and our political parties. Let's all vote to keep humanity around for as long as nature will allow over the next eighty-million years.

I Double Dog Dare You
I challenge you to post this, I already know you will not, but I still want the challenge in their, a fair an honest look at some things you missed, and if you do, my email is williamlawrence7@yahoo.com and if you'd like to make any comments back, that will be great, lets be fair and publish the entire account
First of all, let me start with the fact your article, SWIFT ACTION, is false on many accounts. John Kerry's entire chain of command, every officer the man served under in his whopping 4 month Vietnam tour, the centerpiece of his 'remarkable' campaign, have come out to say Kerry is unfit. These men were defiantly serving along side Kerry, contrary to your article. Military fraternization rules require Kerry to have spent most of his time with those officers, you must have never served, and as a Vet myself Kerry's after Vietnam war actions,
http://www.nojohnkerry.org/page2.htm http://ice.he.net/~freepnet/kerry/index.php?topic=NewSoldier (you'll notice that's an upside down flag he and his gang are raising, in mockery of the Iwo Jima flag raising) like the VVAW, who were investigated by the FBI for sedation
http://www.prweb.com/prfiles/2004/06/08/132432/JohnKerryFBIFiles.pdf are wrong and not the actions of a man who loves his country and who should be President. 250 Veterans from Kerry's Unit Costal Division 12, http://swift2.he.net/~swift2/index.php have also came out to say they think he is unfit. That is a strong statement. Not to mention the book was written by the man that took over Kerry's boat. with input from all of his chain of command, and all those 250 other Vets.
http://swift1.he.net/~swiftvet/index.php?topic=KerryinVietnam
Kerry was in Vietnam for a whopping 4 months, why only 4, because he used his 3 purple hearts to get a cushy stateside desk job. 1 of those months he was in training, now either Kerry is another Audi Murphy, all those metals only 3 months of combat, or he is lying.
From swift vets site, It is clear that at least one of Kerry's Purple Heart awards was the result of his own negligence, not enemy fire, and that Kerry went to unusual lengths to obtain the award after being turned down by his own commanding officer. Kerry is lying Just like the Christmas in Cambodia issue, when asked about being in Cambodia in 68, recently Kerry said I was never there, but Senator, the reporter asked, we have here a letter you authored to the Boston Globe claiming the incident was seared in your brain, and here is the Congressional record showing you made the same comment on the Senate floor, what gives?
Kerry's response we'll have to get back to you, he has still yet to answer it
This is a man who thinks terrorism is exaggerated http://www.washtimes.com/national/20040129-115023-8966r.htm
And here is the man's actions to decimate our Intel budgets
1993: World trade center bombed 1st time
1994: Kerry proposes 1 billion cut from Intel budgets
1994: Kerry proposes 1 billion cut to foreign Intel and tactical Intel budgets
1995: Kerry proposes 1.5 billion cut to Intel budget
1995: Kerry votes to cut 80 million from FBI budget
1996: Kohbar towers bombing
Time line of Kerry Intel cuts from early nineties, CIA director George Tenant said in his testimony to the 9/11 commission by the mid-nineties the CIA had lost close to 25% of it's capabilities and the NSA was a non-existent organization
More on the Kerry record he doesn't mention on the campaign trail:
Gov. Mark Racicot On Sen. John Kerry’s Defense And Intelligence Record: “Your proposals and votes as a Senator should be known to the voters as they evaluate the candidates, including: your proposal to cut intelligence spending by $1.5 billion for the five years prior to 2001 (S. 1290, Introduced 9/29/95), your 1996 proposal to cut defense spending by $6.5 billion (S. 1580, Introduced 2/29/96), and your support for canceling or cutting funding for the B-2 Stealth Bomber, the B-1B, the F-15, the F-16, the M1 Abrams, the Patriot Missile, the AH-64 Apache Helicopter, the Tomahawk Cruise Missile, and the Aegis Air-Defense Cruiser.
John Kerry is clearly not the right man for these trying war times, he is not fit to lead a coalition larger than the one used in the first gulf war, and with the recent unanimous agreements from the UN and G-8 on Iraq plus with NATO now training those troops, Bush put this together and Kerry flip flops so much he'll send our troops into hostile fire and then 2 weeks latter the man would most likely pull out if one news reporter to a grudge against his position, The leader of the war on terror needs to have steady leadership, a consistent voice, and clarity of propose, Kerry is lacking in all 3, Bush is not.

What Would You Do
Many in society view journalists as a group of uncaring individuals with an agenda of shaking up the system. Television reporters are seen thrusting microphones into the faces of victims caught in unpleasant news events or tarnishing the images of elected officials with headlines of corruption and tax evasion.
Though sensation is one ingredient of newsworthiness, most reporters try and present information in a tasteful manner. Along the way, feelings sometimes quietly influence journalism decisions.
The recent thirtieth anniversary of one of the most famous attempted jail breaks became a time for survivors and witnesses to come together in Huntsville, the site of the events that ended with a prison shootout and the deaths of a notorious San Antonio drug trafficker, a fellow inmate and two prison librarian hostages. One librarian was from Beaumont.
Inmates were attempting to make their way out of the prison surrounded by hostages when a stream of water from a fire hose hit them. When the hose burst and the water stopped, the inmates began executing hostages before being killed by law officers.
Many radio listeners never knew why one of the nineteen radio stations in the Beaumont/Port Arthur/Orange area did not broadcast the Associated Press news bulletin announcing the shootout and death of the Beaumont native.
KTRM was a news leader in southeast Texas. At that time, the station was owned by Lyndon B. Johnson and had consistently won news awards. The family of the Beaumont librarian had been instructed to gather around their radio listening to KTRM for news when the shootout occurred.
As a Lamar University journalism student and novice broadcaster for KTRM, I was in the middle of my night air shift when the family called the newsroom. They suspected something had occurred in Huntsville. The Texas Department of Correction officials had been calling regularly updating them on the progress of the negations over the hostages, but had stopped calling. "Just keep listening to your radio," I told them.
As I spoke those words, the AP Teletype machine stopped sending typed news. The old news Teletype machines ran continuously. When they stopped, it was to let radio station news personnel know that a major story was about to be sent. I told the caller goodbye and again reminded her to keep listening to her radio.
While hanging up, I began reading the AP headline describing the shootout. I felt numb as one of the first sentences described how the Beaumont hostage had been killed. Though TDC had not yet informed the immediate Beaumont family of the death, news people from throughout the world were in Huntsville and began sending details out through wire services, such as AP.
KTRM, a news leader, became a news-less station for a while. Knowing the family was listening, I sat on the story until our news director, Jerry Huddleston called from Huntsville 30 minutes later. To my relief, he was not upset that the station had not broadcast the AP bulletin.
The station soon aired Huddleston's live report from Huntsville (By now I felt everyone on the planet knew about the shootout) and KTRM went on to be selected in 1974 as the winner of the top Texas broadcast story award from the Associated Press. The award was based on KTRM's coverage of the Huntsville shootout.
As a New Caney High School journalism teacher, I routinely tell my students about the major news bulletin that was never aired and ask them what they would have done. Like some journalists, most of my students say they would not have broadcast the story (i.e., learning about the death of a family member should come from counselors and not a radio station newsperson).
We are fortunate to live in a society that forces us to deal the question.

In Response To White Wash Is Hog Wash
This letter has got to have been written by someone who fear "THE TRUTH" themselves. What Clarence Bradley did in the pass should have not been an issue in this case. If he was such a horrorible person, then the school should have been at fault for employing him.
Other than the death of this incident girl, the handling of this case was the biggest issue. How can the residence of this town allow their elected officials to run around as if they were above the law?
Evidence-Evidence-Evidence.... that's it all takes to convict someone in our justice system today. But in this case the lack of evidence was easy to come by. The investigation that led to his conviction has no hard evidence such as fingerprints, a motive, no sperm, blood or hair samples.
My question: Why didn't the residence of this so-call, non prejudice community question the lack of (black) jurors of his peers?
Why didn't they (the jurors or community) question the mishandling of lost evidence, which should have been a key to even the WHITE citizens who are WASHed out by thinking their legal system should be all (WHITE) right.
Last, how could the residence of Conroe be blinded by the total lies and abuse of their legal officials?
Even if Clarence Bradley is considered of crimes in the past, what about the crimes you allow your government to commit. Two wrongs don't make a right.
By the way, before I ever heard of this story or it becoming known to the world, I encountered several incidents of prejudice during a visit there on my way to the east coast. Don't get me wrong, I work, eat, and has always lived in a community with a reasonable amount of mixed people. But your community is noway a comfortable environment for the average minority.
Again, It's a shame in today's time a percentage of your community is blind toward justice and the color of your skin continue to hinder the minority.

Bush Emulates Kerry's Leadership
As long as leaders, appointed or elected, choose which intelligence meets their agenda of the moment, intelligence will likely lead to less security than Americans deserve. Following the 9/11 Commission report, Sen. John Kerry stated he would implement their findings. Sometimes, when Kerry courageously speaks out promptly, Bush emulates or poses as emulating that leadership. The New York Times reports Bush wants to appear he is embracing the 9/11 Commission recommendations when he is ignoring its most important aspects. While George Orwell coined the term doublespeak, meaning to say the opposite of the action taken, Bush uses hollowspeak. The Bush promise to appoint an intelligence czar (in the same mold that he appointed Cheney energy czar) without oversight, accountability or, in the case of intelligence, without control over the budget, creates dangerous possibilities.
Equally dangerous, Sec. of Defense Donald Rumsfeld controls 80 percent of the intelligence budget and seven of the 15 intelligence agencies, and, per the New York Times, he had ordered the military to hide a detainee from Red Cross officials. Then, he had accepted responsibility for detainee torture and deaths, with Bush and National Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice implicated on Face the Nation, and later wire reports implicating Ashcroft and Cheney. If name-calling is verbal abuse, and a punch is physical abuse, then abuse is too weak and inadequate a term for the torture and deaths in Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay. Next, to investigate the prison scandal, Rumsfeld had appointed those below him, unable to investigate any above them. Some in the military had flaunted the law with impunity. For example, when Army Inspector General Lt. Gen. Paul Mikolashek had testified before Congress, stating, “We found no evidence of an unmuzzled dog [illegally used during interrogations] to be approved by General Sanchez, Sen. John McCain, dedicated to revealing the truth about war and torture, affirmed, “We did.” While criminals on low military levels may receive punishment for destroying lives and the good name of the U.S., those responsible on high levels elude accountability and justice. Individuals who have observed the training of torturers or films of that training are aware that torture is not an aberrant act. Torturers receive explicit training, and then orders from the highest levels of government, including the U.S., to carry out torture and murder.
Bush speak takes many forms, including dangerously misleading speak. As widely reported, many Americans are skeptical of the Bush administration raising terror alerts when he has unfavorable press or Kerry has favorable press. Per the New York Times, the intelligence reports that led to the Bush administration recent terror alerts were years old. In fact, Bush may have abused the use of terror alerts for political purposes to such an extent he has diminished his credibility, which endangers Americans should a real threat occur. Similarly, Sen. Carl Levin advises Americans that “The misuse and exaggeration of intelligence on Iraq extends far beyond the intelligence community to the senior levels of the executive branch.” The National Security Agency noted that Sec. of State Colin Powell gave “ambiguous” evidence to the U.N. Bush and Cheney had good intelligence from the U.N., that there were no weapons of mass destruction, but the administration chose to ignore it, preventing sufficient time for completion of the investigation, which David Kay later completed, after America began the occupation of Iraq. It seems too coincidental that, following the presentation of the August 6, 2001 CIA memo to Bush, per the Associated Press, fires mysteriously erupted at the Pentagon and the CIA on August 6 and 8, 2001, destroying valuable records.
Additionally, the threats Americans face today include the proliferation of warfare and nuclear weapons, the undermining of the effectiveness of the institutions to which Americans turn for protection of life, rights and benefits, and the naiveté of those who fail to recognize that those who attack Israel attack the U.S. as well. A Baltimore City police sergeant reported he saw the training films at the FBI showing the U.N. sponsored refugee camps in Israel (which teach and foster anti-U.S. and anti-Israeli sentiment) using the U.S. and Israeli flags as doormats. The American Israel Public Affairs Committee reported that 10,000 Iranians recently signed up to volunteer to be suicide bombers against American and Israeli targets. This is not surprising. Bush policies have so destabilized the Middle East that the Iraqi conflict provides a catalyst for terrorist recruitment. Further, does Bush expect that when he abandons non-proliferation treaties, and, according to the Physicians for Social Responsibility, encourages nuclear proliferation with the building of mini-nukes, the other countries will not follow suit? Which corporations built the mini-nukes and how much have their executives contributed to Bush?
Next, the war in Iraq still predominantly places the target on the backs of Americans, with no end in sight. As the numbers of deceased (almost 1,000) and wounded climb, so do profits for executives of defense contractor corporations. Per the Baltimore Sun, Lockheed just posted a 22% increase in [war] profits. What a coincidence that Cheney and his wife had held important positions there, and likely maintain those contacts that tend to reward those who had awarded them lucrative contracts. While Bush and Cheney never fought in any wars, yet send others while attempting to appear otherwise by withdrawing troops from non-war zones, it is morally reprehensible that Bush and Cheney smear the record of Vietnam veteran Kerry so viciously that McCain exposes them. For another example of misleading acts, first, please recall the campaign posters in the year 2000. Per USA Today, Bush staff pictured men in hard hats to represent workers in those ads who, in fact, were corporate executives. Then please consider that, after Linda Ronstadt, without fanfare, suggested her audiences see Farenheit 9/11, is it possible a Bush staff member placed wine glass throwing hecklers in her Las Vegas audience? The film is primarily footage, with minimum commentary from producer Michael Moore. It presents gum chewing Britney Spears who advises, “I think we should support the president, no matter what,” and the mother who believed the military only provides education and travel, told her Iraq-bound son, “Some fear is healthy, “then was shocked and dismayed when he perished.
Bushspeak also encompasses doublespeak. While Bush falsely claims Kerry would raise middle class taxes, Kerry in reality would cause Bush, Cheney and the other rich to pay their fair share, especially U.S. corporation executives who profit from U.S. business, outsource employment, yet avoid paying U.S. taxes by incorporating overseas.
Bushspeak additionally includes onesidedtruthspeak, saying the economy is improving, because for Bush, Cheney and their fellow profiteers it is, and saying the tax cuts for the rich are working, because for them they are. When former President Clinton vetoed the tax cuts for the rich, there was unprecedented prosperity for the majority of the people. He reversed the deficit from $290 billion to a $237 billion surplus. This resulted in an equally unprecedented creation of 22.5 million new jobs, and programs and acts that encouraged higher test scores in education across the land, more police protection, and more affordable gasoline, housing and healthcare for all Americans. For example, when Clinton called Robert Pitofsky at the Federal Trade Commission, they investigated gasoline price spikes, per wire reports, which ended them, but Bush replaced Pitofsky. Today, Bush has reversed the $237 billion surplus to an over $500 billion deficit. He correspondingly has the worst record on job losses since the Great Depression. Per the Baltimore Sun, from 2001 to 2003, 11.4 million workers lost jobs, about half are re-employed, and half of those at jobs that pay less. Bush has created the first generation of downwardly mobile Americans.
